I am currently 40 days into my 8 week challenge following Kris Gethin’s Hardcore Trainer and while I am deeply committed to finishing strong I have definitely faced my fair share of challenges.
I have consistently been getting up at 4:30am to get my workout in before heading to work so I can be at my desk by 7am. This hasn’t been the easiest thing to do and trust me I have had plenty of nights saying why don’t I just sleep in and do an afternoon workout. The thing is I always have to remind myself why I chose to do this 8 week challenge and what my goals are beyond this training program. It is easy to say that you want to skip an early workout and that you can do it later. The issue comes when you give yourself one excuse then what is going to stop you from making another one and another one.
It is a slippery slope when you start creating excuses for skipping a gym session or a cardio session or even a healthy meal. Once you get in the mentality of skipping a workout is OK then you will give yourself an out to continue doing that in every aspect of your life.
As the picture above says a 1 hour workout is just 4% of your day, so why is that so hard to do? We convince ourselves that working out is such a time suck but the same people who say that are the ones binge watching House of Cards or Orange Is The New Black on Netflix without issue.
At the end of the day you need to set your priorities and get after what matters to you. I have personally been at fault of this before blaming a busy schedule, expensive gym memberships and a million other reasons for why a healthy life is hard. Yet I have also been the person binge watching Netflix, spending too much money out drinking on weekends and sleeping in on weekends.
I am ecstatic to finish the program strong and keep pushing myself moving forward, because I know how great it makes me feel. Right now there is no better feeling that finishing your morning workout and driving to work knowing you already accomplished more by 6am than most people will all day long.
Keep pushing yourself and knowing that this is for you and no one else. Unless you prioritize what matters for you, nothing will ever get done and only you will only have yourself to blame.
Now lets get out there and knock out some weight lifting sessions and cardio runs!
